Boreal Covenant is the debut release from Boreal Path, the duo of post-industrial ambient veterans Mkl Anderson (Drekka) and Rush Falknor.

"Boreal Covenant feels simultaneously like a psychotropic initiation rite and a record of the journey where the path itself was discovered.  Side A explores richly layered sonic textures, mythic, half remembered voices, bubbling depths, and subtle earthquake rumbles.  The first trackÕs slow burn sinks in like a slow descent into the dark corners of a ruin where you find some cryptic glyph or mechanism that sets off powerful changes in the environment.  Side B is like passing through the eye of the vortex, coming out the other side and witnessing the whole journey so far as an out-of-body experience.  The final track has a sense of arriving back at the beginning (like the name Bereshith suggests), not as a final or conclusive remark but as one rotation of a cycle."

Recorded entirely live over two nights in Chicago, the performers within arm's reach of each other, this self-titled recording by Mkl Anderson, Evan Hydzik and Mark Trecka, stylized as Drekka x [Hydzik + Trecka], is not dream music in the sense of being otherworldly, lost adrift on a cloud. Rather, it is hypnopompic.  It is the sometimes terrifying gifts of liminal dreamstate visions embodied.

This album was initially supposed to be, and still is, a Dune concept album. Although once they announced the new version of Dune, I mentally shelved the project. But, a broader interest in Arrakis doesn't make my own decades long love of the sandworms and their sacrifice for the Fremen any less relevant.
