BLUESANCT 10th ANNIVERSARY FESTIVAL WEEKEND
JULY 22nd - 24th, 2005 - BLOOMINGTON, INDIANA

WHY? WHO?

What is this festival weekend all about? What is Bluesanct? Who are these bands? WTF?

BLUESANCT is a label I started in Boston in November of 1995, as a part of the DAY2 ALLIANCE. Day2 is a loosely knit group of friends making home-fi music and art for the love of it and of each other; it is a celebration of life and sharing.

The label is not so much a business venture or whatever. It just aims to release music and art by friends and family. Our works aim to open lines of communication, to inspire others to also create sound and vision, to slowly become friends and make a difference in the lives of those who will listen and care.

This weekend festival came about because it is sometimes hard to get all the family in one place. Many of us live in Bloomington or in the nearby states surrounding it. But, Annelies and Wim were coming to the US from Belgium for a holiday and some shows. Darryl was always wanting to fly out from LA and see my place; this place I've lived to the past 5 years. So, it seemed a perfect time to have a little gathering and play music for each other and for anyone who will listen and care.

Most all of the bands are in BLUESANCT or contain members of bands on the label. But, more importantly, they are all bands I like to hear and see play.

I hope anyone who comes will have fun and make some new friends. And that those of us that are already friends will become close friends.

That is my only goal.

- Michael Anderson, Bluesanct figurehead since 1995. (July 2005)

WHAT?

The first night of the weekend, Friday, will be a sort of warm-up for those of us in town already. We can hang out at SOMA, drink coffee and watch two of my favourite songwriters play solo sets.

The second day of the weekend, Saturday, will begin in the early afternoon at the glorious VOLLMAR FIELD. We will begin with a varient ensemble of Mt. Gigantic (feat. the Vollmar brothers and Megan Downey, as well as Simon). Next, we have motivational speaker, BJ SUNFIRE, who will get us on the right foot for rest of the festivities. DREKKA will perform songs, as well VOLLMAR and RIVULETS. We will end the daytime portion with the duo of HORNS OF HAPPINESS (feat. Aaron Deer of The Impossible Shapes)

After a dinner break, those who are of age (I offer apologies to those who are not) can regroup at SECOND STORY for a stunning bill. Beginning with the amazing locals ODAWAS (Jagjaguwar, Neil Young mixed by David Lynch). Next we have DARIN GRAY (Family Vineyard, Skingraft) who plays in the group GRAND ULENA, as well as DAZZLING KILLMEN, BRIS GLACE and many other incredible groups. Then we have, all the way from Belgium, ANNELIES MONSERE, the newest addition to the Bluesanct family whose new CD just came out July 5th! Kranky Records', Jessica Bailiff, is next. She is a member of the family and I've spent many a night with her on tour or droning away for 25 hours in Duluth. Filling the bill out and bringing Saturday to a close is Chicago space-pop by ZELIENOPLE.

Sunday begins over at the library. First we will screen the new film by NATHAN VOLLMAR. As of yet untitled, it is a story of madness and sausage w/ soundtrack by VOLLMAR and DREKKA (and it was filmed just behind Vollmar Field). Next we have RIVULETS, who I have played with and seen more times than any other artist, and whom I hope to see and play with many many more times in the future. Then, we've got CIRCLE BROTHERS, all the way from Belium! CIRCLE BROTHERS is Wim (who runs the brilliant MORC label) and he will play a live soundtrack to a film by KARINA ESP (UK godhead ambient group). After this we have a rare screening of KIRSTIN GRIEVE's film "There's no Tootsie Roll in my Tootsie Pop" with a live soundtrack performed by DREKKA.

WOW, and if that weren't enough, we take a little break and go back to VOLLMAR FIELD for the finale! DARRYL BLOOD will play a full band set (accompanied by members of VOLLMAR). ELEPHANT MICAH will play a full band set (backed by RED QUEEN HYPOTHESIS). STATIC FILMS will play their first set here in a while, with Douglas Tesnow sitting in. And to finish it all off, we'll have an encore performance by ANNELIES!

...after that... who know? There are rumours of dance parties, pool crashing, Rovad hunting... ?????????????
